Your etiquette tip, quote and an Emily Post Cookbook recipe to start your weekend off right!
The Tip
If an extra guest shows up to your holiday, welcome them in warmly as if they were meant to be there. Do any rearranging of places at the table or any adjustments to your service style (switching from buffet to plated portions to ensure everyone has enough, for example) out of sight from your unexpected guest. Even if the extra guest’s presence has thrown you off a bit or irritated you, the last thing you want as a host is for this person to feel like they are a burden or imposition.
The Recipes
We have a stuffing recipe and a pie recipe this week to help inspire your Thanksgiving Day tables.

Nut Pie
This seemingly no-crust pie caught our attention and sounded like it could pair nicely with a Thanksgiving meal. (We are also quite sure you could use a pre-made or homemade crust for this recipe and have it come out delicious.)
Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 1, 9-inch pie
Ingredients
1 cup brown sugar
3 eggs [separated, you’ll use both yolks and whites]
1 cup chopped nuts
3 tbs. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
Directions
Mix these ingredients together [1 cup brown sugar, 3 egg yolks, 1 cup chopped nuts, 3 tbs. flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp. vanilla].
Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into the mixture. Put in a greased pie pan and bake in a 300℉. oven for 20 minutes. Serve covered with whipped cream.

Elizabeth Post sets out a cozy little offering of tea and cookies for a guest in the dining room at the Emily Post house in Edgartown. How cool is that wallpaper wrapping around the entire room (doors and all?!) It’s one continuous scene that does not repeat as it makes its way around the room.
