Etiquette Extra - Happy New Year for how long?

Welcome to 2023! We hope that the year to come has good things in store. One of the firt etiquette questions that we are likely to be asked over the next few weeks is “When should people stop wishing each other happy new year?” This is one question that you won’t find an answer to in any Emily Post etiquette book, because there is no cutoff date. It is usually not good form to crimp someone’s style but what we will say is that the sentiment can get stale if it is dragged out for too long or repeated with the same people. Give yourself a few days to enjoy wishing people well but be ready to hang it up as the week goes on and retire it completely as the next week begins.

Keep an eye out for Thursday’s Etiquette Today article. Until next time!

All the best,
Dan and Lizzie
