The Recipe
Having a great basic recipe in your back pocket can allow you to experiment and get creative with your cooking and bakes. Here is Emily Post’s basic white cake recipe - use the comments section (Monday’s thread is open to all if you’re not a Community Member) to tell us your variations!

White Cake
This is truly a basic cake. Can be used for loaf, layer, or cupcakes, and is easy and quick to mix and good to eat!

Serves: N/A
Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups self-rising cake flour
1/2 pt. heavy cream
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Directions
Beat eggs. Add sugar.
Add alternatively to the above mixture [1 1/2 cups self-rising cake flour and 1/2 pt. heavy cream]
Add vanilla last.
Loaf, 7 - or 8-inch square tin, bake at 350℉. for 35 minutes
Layer, 8-inch round tin, bake at 375℉. for 15 to 20 minutes
Cupcakes, bake at 375℉. for 12 to 15 minutes, depending on size of cupcake tin
