The Saturday Sip: December 7, 2024
Here's your etiquette tip, quote and an Emily Post Cookbook recipe to start your weekend off right!
The Tip
If someone cuts you in line, it’s okay to politely point out the error. “Pardon me, I believe I was next; the end of the line is over there.”
The Recipe
‘Tis the season for hot drinks! Here’s Emily’s cocoa recipe. While these aren’t the clearest directions, it’s fun to see something other than “empty the packet and add hot water”.
Cocoa
pg 352 of The Emily Post Cookbook, 1951
Time: N/A
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
2 Tbs. cocoa [powder]
1 - 2 Tbs. sugar
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 cups milk
Directions:
To make 2 cups of cocoa, mix together 2 tbs. cocoa, 1 to 2 tbs. sugar, and a pinch of salt. Add ½ cup of water and boil for a minute or two, stirring constantly. Put pan in boiling water and add slowly 1½ cups of milk. When hot, cover tightly if not ready to serve. Just before serving, beat until foamy with a rotary beater.
The Quote
“Ideal conversation must be an exchange of thought and not…an eloquent exhibition of wit or oratory.” - Emily Post
