Etiquette Extra - Respect
re·spect
/rəˈspek(t)/
noun
noun: respect; plural noun: respects
1.
a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
"the director had a lot of respect for Douglas as an actor."
due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others.
"young people's lack of respect for their parents"
Respect might be intangible, but we know when it is present or not based on the behaviors and words people use with one another. We can feel it, sense it. In today’s Awesome Etiquette postscript, we continue our look at the core principles of etiquette with a discussion on ‘respect’: where it comes from, how to show it, and how it can be both a special honor and a basic human right all at the same time.

Weekly Awesome Etiquette Challenge
This week’s challenge is to respect personal space. Sometimes, the physical application of a concept can reinforce it. When you’re in line, walking down the sidewalk, or moving through stores this week, try to be aware of your physical proximity to others. Step back a bit in line at the grocery store, and try giving a little more breathing room to the people around you. See how respecting space gets you thinking about respect in general.
The cold snap is upon us, but we are warmed by the company we keep. Thank you for spending a bit of your day with us. We respect and appreciate your attention to thinking about what a thoughtful and caring world can be like.
As always, best regards.
See you on Thursday,
Daniel and Lizzie
Happy Monday Joke

"By icicle.”
