Dear Reader,
This Thanksgiving, Dan and I and the extended Emily Post family would like to express our gratitude for you and the time you spend with us here on the Emily Post Etiquette Substack and listening to the Awesome Etiquette podcast. Your time and attention are a gift, and we are grateful that you have decided to share these precious personal resources with us.
One year ago, we launched a new venture at Emily Post - and it was nerve-wracking for sure! Going from bi-monthly outreach to three times weekly seemed like a stretch for this tiny team. But, as is true with so much in life, we found not only the capacity to produce fresh, meaningful content at this pace but also great joy and deep satisfaction in doing so.
This is a version of the Emily Post brand that we have dreamed of for a long time. A place where people can explore the topics of etiquette that interest them and where they can express that interest and interact with others who share it.
We often describe our job at Emily Post as that of being a social barometer, keeping a finger on the pulse of American etiquette rather than dictating it. And just like when we started the Awesome Etiquette podcast, and we got to hear from you, our audience, weekly about your questions and thoughts on etiquette, the Emily Post Etiquette Substack is another version of this chance for discussion and exchange. We couldn’t be more pleased to have you join us for it.
To hear from you matters greatly to us. It is your voice that helps us shape the etiquette advice we give. It is your voice that tells us when trends are changing. It is your voice that helps us develop more inclusive and thoughtful language year after year. In short, without you, there is no Emily Post etiquette.
It is an honor and a privilege to carry on the work of our great-great-grandmother. And we know we cannot do it without our thoughtful audience. As we think about what we are grateful for this holiday, more than words can say, we appreciate you, and we are grateful for your participation here at Emily Post Etiquette on Substack and the Awesome Etiquette podcast.
Thank you, and to you and yours, we wish you the very happiest of Thanksgiving Day celebrations.
With gratitude,
Lizzie, Dan, and the extended Emily Post family
What a lovely letter to write to your listeners and readers.
